one year(minus a day) ago

miss you guys!

this time last year i was just starting bikram teacher training in acapulco. it was one of the most difficult things i have ever done but it was so worth it! i could have never imagined all of the many blessings that god has brought to my life as a teacher. i am so glad that i made the decision to go for my dream of become a teacher, making my passion a reality. don't get me wrong...it hasn't been a 'easy, breezy' road but i am thankful for every step along the way. looking back it really doesn't seem like that much time has pasted- yet it seem to go by so quickly! i am posting this pic of my 'peeps' at training- isaac is mia from this picture :( OH AND...a big thanks to taylor, friends and family for encouraging me and supporting me along the way.

eat, drink& be vegan!

for lunch today i made the best dip!!! i adapted the eat, drink & be vegan recipe for white bean hummus with thyme and basil with my own little twist on it

1 can canelli beans
handful of basil (chop fine blends easier)
smaller handful of thyme (chop fine)
1t olive oil
1/4 cup water or more depending on how creamy you want it
2t toasted sesame seed
1 teaspoon lemon juice- didn't have any lemon so used 2 teaspoon lime juice
1 clove garlic
sea salt and ground black pepper to taste
drizzle of red wine vinegar

blend into food processor and be merry!

note from chef: this is husband friendly too! it is one of taylors' favorites from the healthy food file :)

run prep and post run

my tech gear tunes and tracking device
my really cool new socks that were free from lukes' locker
in the swag bag from free day of yoga
all my meds :)
lonchi

this morning i taught the 7:30 class and then took the 9:30. my green monster gave me the energy i needed to teach and take but i was still starving when i got home. i made a mexican inspired salad

2 oz chicken
2 oz sliced avocado
1/4 cup black beans
cilantro
red pepper
cherry tomatoes
jicama
salsa for dressing

ran some errands. had a snack on the go 30 minutes before my run at the lake. trail mix kashi bar- yummy. the only thing that is perplexing me about my new running adventure (minus the blisters and sore muscles) is all the prep for running.

salve for lube-ing up existing blisters
band-aids to prevent bigger blisters
no chafe for under my arms- they burn with they rub against the side of my boobs (sorry mom:)
sunscreen-duh
AND tiger balm for the oh so sore knees

sweating in a room for 90 minutes in barely any clothes is more my idea of a fun and minimal prep (besides water) required. that being said though i am going to sick with it- running is a challenge and i need a challenge. it is a new adventure for me to take on! today i ran the farthest i had ever run in one run(say that three times fast). 5 miles!! snaps for me :) my average is a 9 min mile. although my pace for 2 of my miles today was 7:03 which i beat my 8:13 time with a couple of days ago. yay snaps again:)

highlight of my run: when apple bottom jeans came on by flo rida (oh come on- don't deny it- you love that song) and daft punk- harder faster stronger (another favorite from training).
another highlight- when the cross country jr high boys team ran by me- so hot!!! kidding those little guys were so puny -really cute though-- i think they are still afraid of girls :)

the best things

so much in life is the pursuit for more, saving for this or that, upgrading to the next bigger and better thing- 3g- 4g- next it will be 100g... not really but you get my point. but if you look back on the past and think about your happiest moments in your life they have nothing to do with getting the next new thing. they are experiences, time spent with friends and family, your love, being one with nature. this quote reminded me of that. have a beautiful day!

running with nike+ sportband

okay so i have decided to take up running. yes i am a devoted yogi at heart and i practice 6 days a week sometimes more and sometimes less but i need a new challenge. running is that challenge for me. i ran this morning at white rock lake with my new nike+ sportband. you put a sensor in your shoe and wear the wrist band tracking your pace, time, calories, and miles with a mini usb on your wrist. come home after your run and plug in. it is seriously so cool. i think half the reason i like running is because of the fun of the gear- your distance tracking device and ishuffle. for 2 miles my time was 8:13 and then one mile was 9:05. i don't really know how high/low that is in the grand scheme of things..i just know the goal is to shoot for a lower number. in time..baby steps. check out the illustration of my run-so fun!

success!

great success-i woke up refreshed and rested! normally i am dragging at 4:15am but this morning i felt great. two bags black tea helps as well and raw almond butter and a nanner. does the trick every time. anyways my point was 5:30 class was a success as well as my 7:30. that's right folks- double trouble- lock your knee! the rest of my day consists of napping for 1 hour or 2...depending on if i can stay sleep or not, lunch, meet rach for pedi date, meeting at work, 5:30 class with the hubster(thats the hubby and the mister) post yoga breakfast omelet dinner at buzz brews, and grocery shopping at cm. while winding down and catching up with emails i found these lovely quotes/saying/bits of inspiration to share. enjoy and have a great friday!

gearing up ahead of time

i'm a little bummed because i have to be up in a couple of hours 4:15 to be exact to teach my second 5:30am of the week. i love teaching the class..it's the lack of sleep that gets the best of me. so amongst the sleep deprivation i am always trying to stay positive. after all people need their yoga and if i got out of bed at 5 to take the 5:30 i would want a cheery high energy teacher too. so put on a happy face and give it your best! and horray it will be friday :)

fear

i am attempting to go running today. i did my morning yoga for the day and now for an afternoon workout i am attempting running. i always feel like a pretend runner when i run. i don't really enjoy it- i like the way i feel after don't get me wrong- but sprinting was always my favorite. running- as in a mile or more- not so much! i fear it..however gabby has inspired me with all her success and speed she has gained from running so i say what the heck?! i will give it a try. my goal today is to run 1.5 miles with out stopping. i have run a 5k before so i know i can do it. although running races always seems easier to me than running alone. anyways... hopefully my really sweet tunes will help me rock it out! after all the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. namaste
